Infineon Among the World’s Top Scoring 15 Percent of Sustainable Companies
Neubiberg, Germany March 30, 2011 - A few months after having been admitted to the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index, the Infineon Technologies AG has now also succeeded in entering the Sustainability Yearbook 2011. Over 2,000 companies took part in the assessment for the Sustainability Yearbook 2011, including 29 semiconductor companies. Infineon participated for the first time and made it straight to the world’s top-scoring 15 percent of sustainable companies – and to the top 10 semiconductor companies. “This very good assessment in corporate sustainability performance, also backs our business strategy of focusing credibly and convincingly on the three megatrends in society: energy efficiency, mobility and security”, Dr. Christian Pophal, Head of Corporate Environmental Affairs & Sustainability.

Infineon applied for admission to the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index (DJSI Europe) last year and was successful right away. DJSI assessment is one precondition for inclusion in the Sustainability Yearbook. Each year the world’s largest 2,500 companies by market capitalization are invited to get assessed in terms of sustainability.

Inclusion in the Yearbook sends a clear message to customers, employees and investors: Infineon successfully addresses the demands of modern society in the spirit of sustainable development. The publisher of the Sustainability Yearbook is the Swiss-based sustainable investing specialist SAM in collaboration with the auditing and consultancy company PricewaterhouseCoopers. The Yearbook is one of the world’s most comprehensive publications on sustainability trends and corporate sustainability performance from 58 industry sectors.

The great commitment displayed by the wide range of departments, divisions and sites, that supplied the data necessary for the application, is also due to this success. Companies undergoing the sustainability assessment have to answer SAM numerous questions, covering general and sector-specific aspects and must furnish documentary evidence for their replies. After in-depth analysis, Sam compares and assesses the results with the data of other companies from the same or different sectors.
