ERNI Expands MaxJack Family with Integrated Magnetic Filter Components to Include Straight Versions
Predestined for Gigabit Ethernet and PoE applications
Adelberg, Germany, 9 November 2004 - As part of its MaxJack family, ERNI has introduced RJ45 connectors that satisfy even the highest demands in modern data networks. The new single-port MaxJack with a straight design and integrated magnetic filter components is configured for IEEE 802.3-compliant applications, such as Gigabit Ethernet or Power-over-Ethernet (PoE). In this way, the new RJ45 MaxJack connectors are targeting high-speed telecommunications and data communications applications in data storage devices, personal computers, network printers, and peripheral equipment as well as in increasing numbers of industrial applications.

Integrating the magnetic components – which would otherwise be surface mounted on the printed circuit board (PCB) – reduces interferences and saves space on the PCB. These fully shielded MaxJack products can be customized to match specific designs, and they are available for Ethernet data rates (10/100 Base TX, 10/100/1000 Base T). Further options include versions with LEDs and products with enhanced ESD protection (Telcordia Lightning Strike Protection).

The angled RJ45-compatible connectors from ERNI are based on a patented design that makes it possible to integrate the filter elements without changing the size of the jack housing. The new straight version is also only slightly larger, and it can be aligned on a grid. The small, compact dimensions make it possible to keep the circuit paths short and thus achieve very good signal integrity. As far as noise is concerned, the MaxJack series complies with the IEEE802.3ab specifications. The return loss is specified at -3dB over the frequency range from 1 to 125MHz. This makes it possible to extend port distances beyond the 100-meter limit that is recommended by the IEEE. The MaxJack components are available in single-port and multi-port versions in ganged and stacked configurations.
