light sources into textiles Starnberg, June 15, 2009 - At the International Trade Fair for Technical Textiles and Nonwovens, to be held on June 16-18, 2009, in Frankfurt on Main, Interactive Wear AG from Starnberg, Germany will present a number of exciting product development kits for designers of textile based wearable applications. Interactive Wear will present their products in Hall 3.1, Walkway A, Stand 25. Each kit contains fully functional wearable technology components, ranging from textile-integrated solar modules and heating elements, to communication networking devices and solid state (LED) lights. All kits include user documentation, and contain all the parts required to build fully functional product samples. They have been developed to give designers the flexibility to test their application ideas either independently, or in collaboration with Interactive Wear’s support specialists. The Interactive Wear designer kits, whose contents can be freely combined, are moderately priced between 50,- € and 150,- €.
"The beauty of our designer kits for wearable applications is that each one is based on a mature technology that is well-tested and solidly established in the market," says Andreas Röpert, CEO of Interactive Wear AG. "The numerous wearable products based on our technology and developed by our partners in the fashion and sports industry provide enough evidence of that. Textile cables and connectors are easy to integrate by stitching or bonding, and removable components can be connected with elements such as conductive snaps. Available modules lend themselves to wide range of innovative designs through the integration of multiple kits, colour selection, and the customization of software driven functionality. For example, this coming winter season, the first heated solar jackets driven by Interactive Wear’s iSolarX platform will be introduced to the market, with enhanced microcontroller-driven intelligence and user interfaces. Interactive Wear’s new kits, on display at the Techtextil fair, now come with larger batteries and fully customizable, separately controlled, heating and lighting components.”
Product ideas based on Interactive Wear’s light technology, iLightX, will be publicly presented for the fist time this year. This platform includes Light Emitting Diodes (LED) and Electro Luminescent Foil (EL-Foil). This technology can provide fashionable effects in garment and accessory designs, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, as well as security features like flexible luminous snap button-based LED bike shirt contour lights, shown in Figure 3. New solutions combining LEDs with woven fibers to incorporate illuminated textiles in pockets, interior design, and in automotive products (shown in Figure 4), are currently under development. Stay tuned for more news.
Conclusion
A variety of design kits for wearable applications from Interactive Wear allow high-tech textile designers to unleash their imagination, in pursuit of creating innovative customized solutions, while at the same time freeing them from fear of unproven technology and the risk of a high initial investment.
